RIley Contemporary Art - Publications

RIley Contemporary Art - Publications

In November 2009 we launched Riley Contemporary Art – Publications with its own dedicated website www.rileycontemporaryart.com.

The first print is Riley’s Gastronomic Guide to the British Isles© – originally published in 1950. It is a forgotten chart of the food and drink of Britain.

Sixty years on this extraordinary map is now available for the first time as a single graphic work in celebration of British Cuisine and as an intriguing document of Social History.

The Illustration to the right shows detail of the South West corner of the British Isles. Please click here www.rileycontemporaryart.com for further information.

Animalier - Joint Exhibition with Jonathan Poole

Animalier - Joint Exhibition with Jonathan Poole

We are delighted to be holding this joint exhibition with Jonathan Poole at the Compton Cassey Gallery, near Withington. Martin Riley and Jonathan Poole can trace their shared activities in the world of contemporary art over the past 25 years.

On this occasion, paintings by Philip Sanders and Sam Charles, and Gill Parker’s bronzes, form the subject matter for the joint exhibition.

Gill Parker is one of the foremost animalier bronze sculptors working today, her early work centred around the horse, still an abiding passion, and she has subsequently moved onto more monumental work both in style and magnitude, exemplifed by her magnificent bronze of a leaping Marlin.

Martin Riley showed Gill’s work in the 1990’s at the same time as he was promoting the work of the emerging Phillip Sanders, who was then finding his feet in London with one of the longest established sporting art dealers in the country – H C Dickins. Sanders’ current work reveals his sensitive understanding of his subject, capturing the incidental moments of a meet of foxhounds or a day at the races.

Sam Charles distinctive contemporary paintings bring a further dimension to the exhibition.

The Exhibition takes place at the Compton Cassey Gallery, nr Withington with Private Views on
Saturday 26th September from 5:30pm to 8:00pm and Sunday 27th from 11:30am to 3:00 pm.

The Exhibition runs until 25th October (Monday - Saturday 10am - 5pm, or by appointment) but please note that Gill Parker’s bronzes will be removed for Exhibition at Art London from 6th to 11th October.

Exhibition of Paintings by Lucy Kent and James Astor

Exhibition of Paintings by Lucy Kent and James Astor

We were delighted with this show, which has just finished. In addition to the usual positive reaction to Lucy Kent's work, we were very pleased by the way in which James Astor's landscapes - mainly of Gloucestershire and Morocco - were received.

Many of the paintings on exhibition were sold, but further examples of Lucy's and James' work can be found in the Gallery section of this website.
